About Us Picture 1

Welcome to the "About Us" page. Here we've made our best effort to bring you information about our program and our family, the Blessed Teens Academy. Below, you can find out about our history, spiritual education, our academics, and hopefully various other bits of information that can be insightful. The Blessed Teens Academy was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization in Colorado on March 18th, 2009 and became a 501(c)3 federally recognized program on February 24th, 2010. The Blessed Teens Academy was started as a way to give youth, generally fourteen and above (high school), an alternative to going to public school and to give them an environment where they can grow their faith, spirit, and character. There's alot to be said about how this program has developed. Below are just a few general topics that you might enjoy.

Academics

Graduation

First and foremost it is important to understand the Blessed Teens Academy is not a school. As such, we do not have an academic curriculum of our own. Parents must independently enroll their children into a homeschooling program before their children arrive at the BTA. Currently, the homeschooling curriculum that is best suited to the Blessed Teens Academy curriculum and daily schedule is the American School of Correspondence. This is a nationally accredited homeschooling program. Parents who feel that there is a homeschooling program that better suites the needs of their child must contact the staff of the BTA for approval before enrolling. Also, there are students who have gone through American School who can help the younger students when necessary. The students study from 9:00 to 3:00 every day with breaks, lunch and sports between the periods. Many of the students take initiative to do extra studying. Home schooling is very flexible because the student is free to go at his/her own pace and study deeply into the subjects that are interesting. It is possible to finish with high school in two years depending on each person's situation. The BTA uses the advantage of this flexibility to take road trips, workshops, outings, and have fundraising experiences during the week, which we make up for by studying at different times.

Outings

Outing

There are many fun outings that we do at the BTA such as sightseeing trips and road trips. These outings are great, because they stimulate us through nature, challenges, and pure enjoyment. Through experiences of enjoyment and challenge, we come to deepen our hearts; learning to appreciate nature and each other more and more. Each outing is a great opportunity to bond as a family. On the trips, we hold workshops or do service projects in the areas we visit. We have lots of fun enjoying nature and investing in and spending time in a place. The outings are not necessarily planned out for the year; they all come from inspirations of teachers, interns and students. We make effort to make each year's outings unique and exciting for everybody.

Schedule

The groups are encouraged to meet every day with their leaders to receive internal guidance or do their cleaning responsibilities. The groups generally meet after dinner for this. The students are encouraged to take ownership over their free time to be more creative and responsible.

Friday night is our movie night, and Saturday we get to sleep in and have a “brunch”. Saturday is also our major cleaning day to take care of our house. For about two hours we all do a "deep" cleaning. Most of the afternoon is free once in a while, but most of the time we try to do something as a group: sports, shopping, sightseeing, etc. On Sundays, we go to the local church for service and Sunday school. Like on Saturdays, the afternoons of Sundays are generally spent freely playing sports, going shopping or relaxing. There are exceptions to the schedule when there is an inspiration to hold workshops, do service projects or do a special outing.
